Roll cage chromoly or mild steel.
It s nice but not the nicest i ve seen.
Chromoloy tubing is made from a family of low alloy steels that contain chromium and molybdenum sae 4130 or 4140 along with the iron carbon and other elements.
They said it was about 40 lbs.
The guy that caged my aspen told me the civic eg roll cage uk tube by tube.
The tubing size requirement on 8 50 cages are 1 5 8 inch x 118 inch mild steel or 083 inch chromoly.

Had i to do it over again i would still go with mild steel.
As for the price it depends on who build the cage for you.
The dragsters usually have to be backhalved after so many laps.
I thought i wanted a chromoly cage for a weight savings but now thinking about mild steel.
If the budget allows it and there is time cline always prefers to tig weld a cage.
The only real reason to use chromoly in this application is a weight savings.

My hp book on metal working and fabrication said its not good to use chromoly for making roll cages as when its involved in an impact it can break off into a sharp point.
All roll bars cages constructed of 4130 chromoly tubing must be welded using an approve tig heliarc process while mild steel must be done with an approved mig wire feed or tig heliarc process.
Crome molly i have mild steel in my own car and all the dragsters are 4130 molly.
X 118 mild steel or 083 4130 chromoly tubing so this is another aspect to take into play when building or expanding a roll cage as your vehicle gets faster.
If it is mild steel then i have to rebuild the whole thing.
The chromium adds strength hardenability and a level of corrosion resistance to mild carbon steel though chromoly is not as corrosion resistant as stainless steel.

While you probably won t stress them out like we do i have seen them break while riding in the trailer.
For 10 second and slower cars that only need roll bars the size minimum is 1 3 4 o d.
I know that the cm is lighter than mild steel of the same diameter but harder to.
I bought a mild steel 10 point cage from s w racecars.
I asked wolfe racecraft what the weight difference was between a 10 point mild steel cage and a 10 point chromoly cage.

If it s chromoly then i just have to replace a couple of struts and add more to my roll cage to bring it to specs.
